   For the food by which we live, and for the law by which we live in peace, may Lord make us truly thankful. Ven Thomas Barfett, Lay Sheriff of London’s Chaplain July 1977   የህግ አስፈፃሚ መሆኑን ከስሙ መግለጫ መረዳት የምንችለው ይህ ግለሰብ ለአምላኩ ሲፀልይ ወይም የምስጋና ፀሎቱን እንዴት ብሎ እንደሚያቀርብ ሲገልፅ ነው “በህይወት እንቀጥል ዘንድ ምግብን እንዲሁም በሰላም እንኖርበት ዘንድ ህግን ስለሰጠን ጌታ ከልብ የተመሰገነ ይሁን” በማለት የተናገረው፡፡ ይህ ሰው ህግን ከምግብ ጋር አስተካሎታል፡፡ ደግሞም እውነታ አለው፤ የተረጋጋ ህይወት እንዲኖረን ህግ እና ስርአት የግድ አስፈላጊ ነገር ነው፡፡ ለምን? ነጋድራስ ገብረ ህይወት ባይከዳኝ ተናገሩት ተብሎ የሚዘከርላቸው አባባል ወይም ብሂል ምላሹን የያዘ ይመስለኛል፡፡ እንዲህ አሉ፡- “በህግ ከማይኖር ትልቅ ባለብዙ ህዝብና ሠራዊት አገር፣ በህግና ሥርዓት የምትኖር ትንሽ ከተማ ቁም ነገር ትሰራለች፡፡” የህግ ምንነት ተመራማሪ የሆኑት ሮናልድ ዶርኪን Law’s Empire በተባለው መፃሃፋቸው መግቢያ ላይ ህግን ጥሩ አርገው ገልፀውታል፡፡ “We live in and by the law.
